Sure the summer temperatures are sizzling but that certainly doesn’t mean you have to forgo your taste for the hot stuff. In fact, many people find high temperatures the perfect compliment to the hottest hot sauce around. If you’re hoping to taste test your way through the coming weeks, it’s time to hit the open road in search of hot sauce. Luckily there are more than enough options coming up in the near future, all across the US.
July is notorious for its hot summer nights and California is certainly heating things up for hot sauce enthusiasts. Mid-month ushers in the Hot Summer Night Festival to Thousand Oaks, with unlimited craft beer and hot sauce tastings. Next up, head north to Oregon for the Portland Hot Sauce Expo. Planned for the beginning of August, the two-day event calls for a reaper pepper eating contest and tastings from dozens of hot sauce brands. Staying up north, the North Hudson Pepper Fest is planned for mid-month in Wisconsin. While not specific to hot sauce, the festival does feature a hot pepper eating challenge; ensuring you’ll at least be able to quench your thirst for hot peppers before you hit the road once again.
Heading back to California, the California Hot Sauce Expo also kicks off in mid-August in Anaheim. The event features hot sauce tastings with an added array of spicy challenges on tap. The month winds down in the Lone Star State with the Austin Chronicle Hot Sauce Festival. The annual event brings together hundreds of different hot sauces, food and live music to the Austin area. Of course August 19 is also National Hot and Spicy Food Day. Even if you can’t hit the road this summer, it’s a good time to grab your favorite bottle of hot sauce and toast to another hot summer season.
